CAPS United registered their second successive league win after edging Herentals one-nil at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.
Having opened their league campaign with a 2-1 home win against Agama, the Green Machine picked from where they left with a thunderous strike by forward Obriel Chirinda 19 minutes into the match.
The win ensured that the Harare giants maintained top spot with six points, four above Simba Bhora, as well as Hardrock and Chicken who both registered their first win of the season yesterday.
Simba Bhora, Manica Diamonds 1-0 last weekend, were held to a goalless draw at home yesterday against newly promoted side FC Hunters at Wadzanayi Stadium.
The match lacked goals but it was an entertaining one with Nesbert Saruchera’s youthful side once again proving their competitiveness in the top flight.
Just like he did last weekend, FC Hunters winger Benjamin Goliath showed some flashes of brilliance while goalkeeper Kelvin Shangiwa saved the new boys early in the second half.
Simba Bhora’s best chance fell to striker Claude “Pokello” Mapako in the second half but after beautifully chesting the ball down, he fired straight at Shangiwa.
Simba Bhora coach Mandla Mpofu was left disappointed by missed chances by his strike force.
“We were disappointed we didn’t pick the three points, we missed a number of clear chances and I think we should have done better.
“We will continue to work hard to rectify those mistakes as we move forward, “said Mpofu.
His counterpart Nesbert Saruchera was happy with the draw especially against the former champions.
“We were playing away from home, snatching a draw is good and it’s not easy against the former champions. We are doing well. We managed to collect a point.
“Although we need to collect three points, I think the two games were not easy for us, but we managed not to lose, which is a positive,” said Saruchera.
Meanwhile, new boys Hardrock picked up their first full set of points after beating ZPC Kariba 1-0 at Nyamhunga, with Washington Navaya on target.
2015 league champions Chicken Inn edged Triangle 2-0 at Barbourfields while FC Platinum bounced back from last weekend’s defeat against Ngezi Platinum Stars to beat Manica Diamonds 2-0 at Mandava.
There was a stalemate at Ngoni where MWOS were held to a 1-1 draw by TelOne.
